Wood Carving Progress

So far in my process, I have carved over almost the whole top layer, and have started really adding depth in areas of the work that will in the end, be deepest. The most difficult part of this piece is trying to carve in the same direction of the wood grain instead of contrary to it. This technique is more efficient to carve my design but results in more splintering.
